Making of Continents and Societies

Our visitor centre is located in a marble quarry in the karst landscape near the old Moster church, which was built from local marble and limestone around the year 1000. The centre has exhibitions, a café and information.

The most beautiful glacial potholes in northern Europe were formed one summer 11,000 years ago, when the last ice sheet retreated completely and huge masses of water flowed into the fjord and the sea. Spectacular glacial potholes incised in the steep ice-polished granite 270-320 m a.s.l.

Stone Age people collected blanks for their axes here for almost 6,000 years. One of the oldest mines in the world, which still looks exactly the same today as it did when the last stone smith rowed ashore from there 4300 years ago.

An exploded magma chamber with wonderful formations, exposed at the far end of the ocean on Møkster. Granite veins and veins that penetrate slate, marble and quartzite. A piece of the ancient continent of Laurentia (America and Greenland).
